Services/Procedures

Clients may fill out applications online or you may also call us to apply for services. Please have all information that is requested on the application form available, when you call. Once your application has been received, our office will contact you to make an appointment.  Your counseling will be done in person in our office or by telephone.

Bankruptcy, Budget and Credit Counseling: Our agency provides both pre-filing bankruptcy counseling and post-filing bankruptcy classes*.  We are approved by the Department of Justice to do telephone counseling in the states of Missouri, Kentucky, Kansas, Tennessee, Nevada, California, Florida, and Arizona.*

*Financial Fitness Services is approved to issue certificates in compliance with the Bankruptcy Code.  Approval does not endorse or assure the quality of a Provider's services.  (Clients will not be denied a certificate of completion because of inability to pay)

Your bankruptcy counseling experience will consist of five steps: 1) information gathering; 2) financial assessment, 3) consideration of options, 4) decision making, and 5) implementation. As a counselee, you will be responsible for gathering accurate information so that our financial assessment will be based on accurate data. With accurate information in hand, we will work together to find the best solution to your financial problems. The information that you will need to gather can be filled in on the Resource Management Plan (Monthly Budget) form that can be accessed by clicking on "Customer Forms".    This is a list of your monthly income and expenses (If you need help filling it out, we can guide you through the process).   We will also need a list of your assets (what you own) and your debts (what you owe).

You should expect your pre-file counseling  session to last 60 to 90 minutes. Once the counseling process is complete, you will receive a bankruptcy counseling certificate, if you have chosen bankruptcy as your plan of action. This certificate will allow you to proceed with the bankruptcy process.  Our goal is to help you understand the bankruptcy process and to help you make a plan for a sucessful financial future after your bankruptcy.

We also provide Personal Financial Management/Debtor Education classes.  Pre-registration is required.  You may register for a class by contacting our office.

Senior Adult Services: We provide free financial counsel and paperwork assistance to senior citizens, 60 and over, in the Missouri Counties of Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, and Dunklin.

Funds for Senior Adult provided, in part, by Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging through a federal grant by the Missouri Department of Social Services Division Of Aging, under the provision of Title III, Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended.
